I was introduced to Lularoe just about 2 and 1/2 years ago. Oldest Daughter was pregnant with child number 3. She was on maternity leave from her teaching job and looking for a way to not go back. She ordered her first Irma top and fell in love. Within a month, she was a consultant, and, since their basement was unfinished, mine became the location for her shop.
For the next year, I packed and sorted orders, photographed new inventory and generally worked for leggings. And then, just about the time her basement was ready to move her inventory out, I moved my own inventory in. Because, you see, I love this company.
- I love the clothes. For most of my life, I have struggled with my weight to the point where I didn’t ever feel attractive. And, let’s face it, clothing for plus size ladies had a tendency to be bland. Not so with Lularoe! I love the fun colors and patterns. I love the fit. I love that the clothes are fun and well made.
- I love the community. This is not the first direct sales company I have been a part of. In any particulary company, most consultants/retailers (whatever they are called) are in competition with each other because everyone has the same product. Not so with Lularoe. Not every retailer carries the same styles or prints. That means we can work together. It’s not unusual for one retailer to refer a customer to another retailer because the customer is looking for a style or print they don’t carry. It’s not unusual for several retailers to get together and sell at the same event and then help each other out to style an outfit for a customer. I may have a pair of leggings that goes with a top someone else carries. I love the idea that my success doesn’t have to be at someone else’s expense.
- I love the customers. Because of this company, I have found a tribe of women I now consider to be friends. We came together because of our afinity for Lularoe and in the process, became friends who support each other through lifes joys and challenges. Many of them are plus size and I have the opportunity to help them feel attractive.
- I love the company itself. I like that this is a company where I can succeed without being required to build a team. I appreciate that they try to have our best interest at heart. They listen to our complaints/suggestions and make adjustments where they can. Finally, I appreciate that their attitude about mistakes is “assume innocence” and treat it as an opportunity for education. That attitude is refreshing. I appreciate their sense of ethics and their desire to do the right thing, to assume the best about people.
Which is not to say they don’t make me crazy at times. I’m not always a fan of their decisions, but, that’s business. I felt the same way about my employer in my former life. More than once I thought, what were they thinking? But, as least for now, I enjoy what I do so I’ll keep selling those buttery soft stretchy pants!
